Active Ingredient present in Tablets

The active ingredient present in Ovuloc Tablets are Desogestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol Estradiol. Each tablet contains 150 mcg Desogestrel and 30 mcg Ethinyl Estradiol.

How Does Ovuloc Tablet Work?

Desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol combination is used to prevent pregnancy. It is a birth control pill that contains two types of hormones, Desogestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol, and when taken properly, prevents pregnancy. It works by stopping a woman's egg from fully developing each month. The egg can no longer accept a sperm and fertilization (pregnancy) is prevented.

Ovuloc Tablets - Dosage and Administration

Day 1 Start:
The dosage of Ovuloc for the initial cycle of therapy is one rose-colored “active” tablet administered daily from the 1st day through the 21st day of the menstrual cycle, counting the first day of menstrual flow as “Day 1”. Tablets are taken without interruption as follows: One rose-colored “active” tablet daily for 21 days, followed by 7 tablet free days. After which, a new course is started and a rose-colored “active” tablet is taken the next day.
The use of Ovuloc for contraception may be initiated 4 weeks postpartum in women who elect not to breastfeed. When the tablets are administered during the postpartum period, the increased risk of thromboembolic disease associated with the postpartum period must be considered.

Sunday Start
When taking Ovuloc, the first rose-colored “active” tablet should be taken on the first Sunday after menstruation begins. If the period begins on Sunday, the first rose-colored “active” tablet is taken on that day. If switching directly from another oral contraceptive, the first rose-colored “active” tablet should be taken on the first Sunday after the last ACTIVE tablet of the previous product. Tablets are taken without interruption as follows: One rose-colored “active” tablet daily for 21 days, followed by 7 tablet free days. After which, a new course is started and a rose-colored “active” tablet is taken the next day (Sunday).
When starting a Sunday start regimen, another method of contraception should be used until after the first 7 consecutive days of administration.

Ovuloc Tablets During Pregnancy

Desogestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets (Ovuloc Tablets) have been classified by the US FDA as pregnancy category X. Studies in animals or humans have demonstrated fetal abnormalities and/or there is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience.
Oral contraceptives should not be taken by pregnant women. If pregnancy occurs during treatment with Ovuloc, further intake should be stopped. However, if conception accidentally occurs while taking the pill, there is no conclusive evidence that the estrogen and progestin contained in the oral contraceptive will damage the developing child.

Nursing Considerations

In breast-feeding women, the use of oral contraceptives results in the hormonal components being excreted in breast milk and may reduce its quantity and quality.
Adverse effects on the child have been reported, including jaundice and breast enlargement. The nursing mother should be advised not to use oral contraceptives but to use other forms of contraception until she has completely weaned her child.
